Sex attack on woman in woods

A 32-YEAR-OLD woman has been sexually assaulted in broad daylight while walking her dogs.

The woman was attacked in High Lodge Forest, near Green Road in Brandon, on Tuesday morning between 11am and 11.35am.

A police spokeswoman said the victim had been walking her two dogs across Mayday Meadow before taking a rough path through the trees.

As she did, a man grabbed her from behind, pushing her to the ground.

She shouted and struggled to break free as the man attempted to pin her down.

The man only fled when her dogs barked at him and he ran off into woodland towards the B1106.

The woman told police she was extremely shaken but physically unhurt.

Searches were carried out by police once the woman had reached a place of safety, with the force helicopter being put into action.

Neil Ireland, Forest Heath Safer Nieghbourhood Team (SNT) Inspector, said: “The Brandon SNT is carrying out additional patrols in the forest on bicycles to reassure walkers and we would urge anyone who was in the area at the time or has any information about the man or the incident to call us.”

The attacker is described as being white, 6ft, of medium build, around 40-years-old and smelled of alcohol and body odour.

He was wearing a black hooded top and loose, dirty light blue jeans.

Insp Ireland added: “I would like to remind people to always let someone know where you are going and what time you will be back to stay safe in the forest. Stick to official footpaths and walk with others if possible.

“This is a very rare incident for Suffolk – we have a lot of forest, park and heathland in this part of the county and they are very safe places to enjoy the countryside.”

Anyone with information on the incident can call Pc Thomas Kent at Mildenhall Police on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
