Police authority increases its share of council tax

SUFFOLK Police Authority has agreed to increase its council tax precept by 3.75 per cent.

The increase is part of a £112.2 million revenue budget for policing Suffolk in 2012/13 which was agreed by members.

The move was agreed unanimously after members considered and rejected an option to freeze council tax at last year’s level and accept a one-off government grant of £1.25 million for one year.

The precept will generate an extra £1.55 million and rebuild officer numbers from 1,167 to more than 1,200.
