Masked thieves break into Waitrose store on early morning tobacco raid

Have your say

RAIDERS used overalls and rubber masks to disguise themselves on CCTV when they broke into a supermarket early this morning.

Police say two thieves jemmied open the automatic doors at Waitrose in Bury St Edmunds at about 2am then forced the metal shutters over the tobacco counter where they stole cigarettes.

They were only in the store for a few minutes before running out to a dark coloured car, driven by a third person, that had been parked in front of the store’s automatic carpark barriers in Robert Boby Way.

Police, who arrived shortly after the raid, which set off an alarm, search the area by found nothing.

The men wore white paper overalls and black face masks, thought to have been fetish wear.

Anyone with information should call PC Ian Davies at Bury St Edmunds police station on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Waitrose declined to comment on the raid.
