A man has been cleared of assault causing grievous bodily harm outside a Bury St Edmunds nightclub.

Luke Sigley, 30, of Ashwell Road, Bury St Edmunds pleaded not guilty at Ipswich Crown Court to the charge which related to an incident outside Flex Nightclub in the early hours of March 10.

Today after two hours of deliberation he was found not guilty and Mr Recorder Simon Blackford told him he was free to leave the court.

Prosecution had alleged that Dean Bailey, 19, was punched in the face by Mr Sigley in an unprovoked attack, suffering a fracture to his face.

But Mr Sigley said that while he had struck out at Mr Bailey it was in self defence as he feared he was about to be attacked. He said his actions were not premeditated.
