Man dies in hospital after Honington ‘stabbing’

A 23-year-old man who was injured in an incident in Honington has died in hospital.

The man was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury, in a critical condition on Wednesday, but was later moved to Papworth Hospital, in Cambridgeshire, where he died on Thursday evening.

Police are now treating the investigation into the incident as a murder inquiry.

A 22-year-old woman from the Bury St Edmunds area who was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of attempted murder has been released on police bail.

Police were called to the Poplar Close estate, in Honington, at around 1.50am on Wednesday following reports that there was screaming coming from a property and that a man had been stabbed and he had collapsed outside the house.

Suffolk Police and paramedics attended and found a man with wounds to his torso.

A spokesman from the East of England Ambulance Service said the man was in cardiac arrest and was bleeding heavily.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and taken into custody at Bury police station. She was later released on bail to return to Bury police station on March 23.

A spokesman from RAF Honington said that the two people involved in the incident were not connected with the 15 Squadron homecoming which took place on Tuesday.

Suffolk Police has launched an investigation into what happened in Honington and is asking anyone who saw anything or heard anything in the area in the early hours of Wednesday morning to come forward.
