Man charged with murder of Mary Roberts refused bail

A man charged with the murder of Mary Roberts, whose body was found in a car park off Risbygate Street, in Bury St Edmunds, has been refused bail.

Andrew Ratcliffe, 56, of Wherstead Road, Ipswich, appeared at Norwich Crown Court today.

He was remanded in custody and will next appear at crown court at a later date.

The body of Mrs Roberts, 50, who was a mother of five, was discovered on March 27.

A 59-year-old man, from the Bury St Edmunds area, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, remains on police bail and is due to return to the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on Wednesday.
