ABBEYCROFT Leisure Centre in Bury St Edmunds has been left with a hefty bill following a break-in at the weekend.
A CCTV system worth about £1,400 was stolen from an office along with cash from vending machines. Doors and vending machines in the building were also damaged.
Offenders gained entry to the building, in Beetons Way, between 8.45pm on Sunday and 5.30am on Monday morning.
Simon Ginders-Coxhall, centre manager, said: “It’s infuriating to believe that there are people out there that would do that.
“It has left us in a fair mess with some considerable damage.”
He said the business faced a bill to replace the CCTV system and could also be hit with costs of about £900 to fix damaged doors. Caterers at the leisure centre had income stolen from the vending machines and must also pay to have the damaged machines fixed.
Suffolk Police are appealing for information about the incident.
They are also on the look-out for a suspicious man who called at the centre at 8pm on Sunday asking questions about it. He is described as white, 6ft, of large build and in his late 50s to early 60s, with short and fuzzy grey/white hair and a missing front tooth.
He was wearing a grey T-shirt, dark combat trousers and black boots and spoke with a local accent.
