Five arrested after lorry park incident at Rougham Hill, Bury St Edmunds

POLICE have arrested five men following reports that lawnmowers were being moved from a lorry in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The police helicopter and dog unit were called out to the Rougham Hill lorry park at 2.15am.

Police say that they received reports that lawnmowers were being removed from one lorry into another.

Officers arrived as a lorry was leaving the site. It ran off the road and a group of men ran away from the vehicle. Following a police search a 43-year-old man from Leeds was arrested nearby.

Police say that inquiries have discovered that the lorry the lawnmowers had been loaded into had been stolen from Humberside.

Later that morning police received reports of a suspicious group of men at Bury St Edmunds Railway Station and a further four men were arrested – a 22-year-old from Pontefract and a 33-year-old, a 32-year-old and a 28-year-old, all from Leeds.

All five are currently in custody at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre where they will be questioned by detectives.
