Council fuming after thieves steal trees

Have your say

THIEVES have left a town council ‘outraged’ after they stole 15 trees from a public orchard.

Brandon Town councillors are fuming after vandals took the trees and their protective cages from the orchard on Coulson Lane last weekend.

A number of the trees were donated by residents and eight were planted last week.

Cllr Tony Simmons said the act had ruined the area which was intended as somewhere for local people.

“I am absolutely furious about this,” he said.

“These trees are not cheap and we are trying to make this a place where everyone can go.

They are fruiting trees and the idea is that people can go and pick for free.

“Now that has been spoiled by some selfish people.”

The trees are believed to have been taken out of the kissing gate at the site, rather than the main gate.

Christine Mason, town clerk for Brandon Town Council, said the cost of the trees ran into hundreds of pounds.
