A fire in a house in Whatfield Way, Combs, is being treated as arson by the police.

Fire crews were called to the property at about 11.40am today, initially as a roof fire.

Appliances from Stowmarket, Elmswell and Bury attended and found the house heavily smoke logged, so they used breathing apparatus and a hose-reel jet to fight the fire, which was out shortly after 12.20pm. All the occupants were accounted for.

But a Suffolk Fire Service spokesman said at 4.45pm that crews, who had found two separate seats of the fire, were still on scene checking for hot spots and assisting police scenes of crime officers.

Suffolk Police confirmed this afternoon that they are treating the fire as arson and asked anyone who saw anything suspcious to call them on 101 quoting crime number 16538/16.
