Police in Mildenhall are holding two catalytic converter marking events this summer to help motorists to prevent theirs from being stolen - and the first one takes place today, Monday.
The sessions are aimed at owners of vehicles with a high ground clearance, such as vans and 4x4s, which tend to be targeted by thieves due to the ease at which they can get underneath them.
The catalytic converters will be etched with the vehicle’s registration number and also marked with a heat-resistant silver spray which acts as both a deterrent to thieves, as well as identifying it to scrap dealers as one that has been marked if someone tries to sell it to them.
Vehicle owners will also be given stickers to place in their windows warning potential thieves that the converter has been security protected. The marking is offered free of charge.
The first of these events will be held between 9am and 3pm today, Monday June 22, at ATS Euromaster Ltd, 4 Southgate Avenue, Mildenhall. The second event is scheduled to take place between the same times on Monday September 14.
Anyone wishing to attend is required to make an appointment in advance by contacting ATS direct on 01638 713841 or PCSO Bill Butcher at Mildenhall Safer Neighbourhood Team on 101 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
