POLICE are appealing for information following a suspicious fire at a house in Stowmarket.

Firefighters were called to a house in Fox Court just before 5am on Saturday morning to a fire involving an outside electric meter box.

Two fire engines from Stowmarket and Needham Market attended the incident at the semi-detached house and used two dry powder extinguishers to fight the fire which damaged the electricity box and the porch.

UK Power Networks was called to the scene to repair damage to underground cables.

A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service said the fire did not spread to the house and no-one was injured. He described the fire as suspicious.

Suffolk Police are treating the incident as arson and are appealing for anyone with any information about the fire.

Police said the fire was started by setting a wheelie bin alight next to the house between 4.15am and 4.45am on February 26.
