Arrest for scrap theft

A 27-YEAR-OLD man who was found trying to scrap five drain covers and six tractor weights has been arrested.

Officers became suspicious when the man approached a scrapyard in Red Lodge in a heavily laden vehicle on Monday.

After speaking to the driver, a search revealed the drain covers and weights and the man, from Newmarket, was arrested on suspicion of theft and handling stolen goods.

He has been released on bail to return to the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on December 23.
