Armed robbers swoop on jewellers

Have your say

ARMED robbers swooped on a jewellers in Bury St Edmunds town centre this morning.

Four men entered Thurlow Champness jewellers in Abbeygate Street with a sledgehammer.

The men, who were wearing black motorcycle helmets, left the shop and drove off on motorbikes.

Two motorbikes have been found nearby in Long Brackland.

It is as yet unclear if anything was stolen and no one was hurt.

Detective Inspector David Giles said: “The fact that two motorcycles have been recovered suggest that a further vehicle was used by the offenders to leave the area.

“I want to hear from anyone who may have seen the motorcycles enter Bury Town Centre, or anyone with any information on any other vehicles that may be involved.”

Anyone with information should contact West Suffolk CID on (01473) 613500 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
