Fire crews battle through the night to tackle recycling centre fire

Firefighters tackled a large fire for around ten hours last night in Red Lodge.

Fire crews were called at around 9.30pm to a fire at the Waste Recycling Centre in The Carrups.

Around 70 tons of household waste went up in flames as the eight fire engines battled through the night to extinguish the blaze - they were stood down at around 7.15am this morning.

Fire engines from Leiston, Wickhambrook, Bury St Edmunds, Brandon, two from Mildenhall and three from Newmarket were at the scene throughout the night.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
