Remembrance Day came early for Sue and Bernie Gardiner this year when the first thing they did on holiday in Singapore was to lay a Poppy Wreath on the memorial at the Kranji war cemetery.

There are many Suffolk Regiment graves there. The couple lost nobody in the Far east but Bernie said: “They’re our boys.”

They had carried the wreath from home in Rickinghall and to get to the cemetery they had to take a taxi, train and bus then climb a hill in tropical heat.
