A couple who have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary say the secret to a successful marriage is ‘give and take’.

Gordon and Isabella Staples, of Stanningfield, met at a holiday camp in Somerset in 1947 and married about three years later in Dagenham.

The couple lived in Enfield for about 30 years and Mr Staples, 91, was a photographer while Mrs Staples, 88, worked as a secretary.

They moved to Stanningfield about 30 years ago and ‘jumped straight into village life’ by getting involved with the methodist church.

They were due to celebrate their anniversary by going out for a meal with family.
