THE Leader of Suffolk County Council is to step down, it has been confirmed.

Cllr Jeremy Pembroke has decided to retire as leader after six years in the role.

He does not intend to stand for re-election to the council in 2013 and says that a new leader should be given the chance to make their mark.

Cllr Jane Storey will take on his duties temporarily until the council’s annual general meeting on May 26 when a new leader will be elected.
