A counsellor’s first book will aim to reduce the stigma of mental illness and encourage people to discuss their emotions.

Bob Brotchie, of Anglia Counselling has released his first book, The Mindful Compendium.

The book is a collection of observations made while working as a counsellor.

He said: “The book discusses rather than preaches ways that you can think about things.

“The cornerstone is about mindfulness about being in the present. Awareness about how we feel and are thinking and what’s around you.

“The teaching is just a way of behaving more sensibly.”

Until 2011 Bob worked for the East of England Ambulance Service where he frequently encountered mental illness, after leaving the service he retrained as a counsellor and has a practice in Kentford.

He said removing the mystique and stigma of mental health was the ‘primary purpose’ of writing his book.
