Hardwick Primary School football team’s youngest members have been able to hang up their oversized kits, thanks to a grant from a St Edmundsbury Borough Councillor.

Two dozen children from reception class and year one at Hardwick Primary School in Bury, faced having to play their first matches in hand me down kits used by older pupils.

Andy Abbott, a volunteer coach at the school, said:“They looked ridiculous training in the older children’s kit. They are only four or five years old and it drowned them.”

Up stepped St Edmundsbury Borough Cllr Sarah Stamp to make the save with £230 from her locality grant to pay for their new kit.

“The new kit really looks great,” said Mr Abbott. “It was a very proud moment when they took to the pitch wearing the school colours and they won their first game 5-3. It was really lovely and we are very grateful to Sarah for her support.”
