RESIDENTS in Bury St Edmunds will not have to pay a higher tax to the town council next year.

At a full town council meeting last Wednesday, members confirmed the tax for a Band D equivalent property would remain at the level it was for this year, £13.50.

Following a community governance review, 195 properties previously in the Fornham All Saints parish became part of the town’s St Olaves ward, which has increased the total figure the town council receives.

This increase represents 136.78 Band D equivalent homes and brings the total of Band D equivalent homes in Bury to 13,969.21.

It will increase the town council’s precept figure next year to £188,585.
