Council bosses have been urged to buy a compass after new pedestrian signs installed in Bury St Edmunds town centre gave the wrong street names.
St Edmundsbury Borough Council has recently installed signs in St Andrews Street North and South which offer directions to key locations in the town.
However, the signs identified the wrong street names so while the directions were correct the plaques denoting their street names were the wrong way round.
Borough and County Cllr David Nettleton said: “I suggest the council buy a compass so they can tell North from South.
“Or they could actually ask one of the local members like me and I would point it out to them.”
After being told of the street sign error by the Bury Free Press, a council spokeswoman said: “We are getting it corrected as quickly as possible.”
