Quirky ICE Café opens at Rougham Industrial Estate

Reclaimed materials, a funky mural, neon signs and an eclectic menu are combined at Rougham Industrial Estate's newest venue.

Tucked away from the high street, the ICE Café occupies a former engineering unit which has been transformed in a project years in the making.

The unit's interior was ripped out and a 60-cover restaurant created, with a stage for live music and bar made out of reclaimed sleepers used in the Victorian era.

A private area – called The Blue Room – has also been built for special events and private dining.

Opened on Monday, the café the Infusions Group directors' musical and interior tastes, while the menu offers something for most tastes.

Sarah Stamp, Infusions Group director, said: "We are trying to be all things to all people. Why not? That's the market we have cornered.

"Because of where we are located, we have people coming in for a roll and we also have ladies what lunch. As a result the menu is really varied, with everything from burgers to venison haunch."

The music-themed mural in the stage area was a hot topic during the design stages, with all the company's directors putting forward suggestions of their icons before the list was whittled down to Aretha Franklin, Freddie Mercury and Slash.

"We all love music, which is why we have installed a stage for live music. All four directors had a heated debate when choosing who to feature on the mural though," said Sarah.

The quirky café has an industrial feel to reflect its location, with former cable reels re-tasked as tables, old doors put to new use and reclaimed materials used where possible.

The venue is the realisation of a long-held dream for Infusions Group owners Jon and Lou Jackaman, who have wanted their own restaurant since they were 15 years old.

"This is a dream 30 years in the making and it has been at least a year in the planning and building. Every aspect has been designed and held together by the team," said Sarah.

"There is nowhere else like it. We are really proud of what we have created."

ICE Café is at Unit 1, Lundy Court. It is open 8am-6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm Sundays, while it is hoped to offer evening dining in the near future.
