Controversial plans for a 180 pitch caravan and camping site at West Stow Country Park have been temporarily withdrawn.

St Edmundsbury Borough Council has pulled its application to set up 30 touring caravn or motorhome pitches and upto 150 tent pitches at the park.

It follows nearly 80 objections over the potential impact on wildlife as the park is bounded on three sides by the Breckland Special Protection Area and Breckland Forest Site of Special Scientific Interest. Natural England says further assessment is needed about impacts on these sites.

A council spokesman said the application had been temporarily withdrawn as extra work is needed to ‘fully understand the environmental impact of the proposal’.
