Company seeks reduced hours from employees

A company is asking employees at its Bury St Edmunds plant to work reduced hours.

Vitec Videocom, which has a manufacturing facility, in Western Way, has also sought voluntary redundancies.

Paul Watson, divisional COO, said it follows ‘a slower than predicted rate of order intake’ in their camera supports and accessories business unit.

He added: “This situation is resulting from customers in the higher end studio, and project market delaying a proportion of their larger capital investments. We have a number of exciting projects in the pipeline, however, in some cases, the timeline of these large investments has been pushed back into 2013.

“In order for us to manage this short term situation, we felt it would be prudent to take immediate action and introduce a number of measures to manage our staffing levels at the manufacturing facility in Bury St Edmunds, where these high end projects are processed.

“We are confident going forward that the rate of orders will strengthen as we move into Q1 2013.”
