YOUNG people spearheading a National Citizen Service scheme held a special activities taster session for other youngsters at the weekend.
Fourteen teenagers decided to create a space and scheme designed for youngsters aged 10 to 14 and held a trial session on Saturday at The Centre, in St John’s Street, Bury St Edmunds.
Twenty-five young people turned up for the event, which featured workshops in music, dance and arts and crafts, all run by the young people, who also did the catering for the event.
The project, delivered through the Prince’s Trust, now hopes to organise weekly sessions with help from the Rotary Club.
Sue Brown, from the Prince’s Trust, said: “It was an event that could have gone either way but it was stunning.
“The young people surprised themselves with how they were able to cope and pass on their skills.”
The group are now in talks with the Rotary Club which was ‘inspired’ by what the youngsters had achieved.
