Community leaders gathered to bid farewell to outgoing Bury in Bloom co-ordinator Melanie Lesser.

They raised a glass to Melanie, who was presented with a David Hockney print in recognition of her work, at The Apex on Tuesday.

Robin Burnett, chairman of the Bury Society’s Bury in Bloom, said: “I’ve rarely met anyone with the skills, the energy, the enthusiasm of Melanie and her ability to get things done with grace and good humour.”

He added that Bury is now one of the top seven floral towns in the UK.

Melanie said: “It’s been a team effort . We all love living here and it’s gone from strength to strength.”

She has been succeeded by Stephen Moody.
