Whepstead Community Centre is sporting a modern new look after being redecorated for the first time in more than 20 years.
The centre was painted on Sunday – after being prepped by villagers the day before – using around £300 worth of materials sponsored by Tesco in Bury St Edmunds.
Lesley Kearney, secretary of the Whepstead Community Association, was among those who helped carry out the work.
She said: “The hall was looking so out-of-date and we just wanted to make it look more contemporary.
“It was quite a striking shade of yellow on the top and this red colour below and the curtains had sort of orange patterns so it really did look as if it had been caught in a bit of a time warp, so now if people are having weddings and things there it’s a completely blank canvas.”
Lynda Osborn, Tesco’s community champion, who also leant a hand, said: “It hadn’t been decorated for at least 25 years and they were over the moon we could help.”
