Lakenheath Clay Target Centre has been granted planning permission to build a temporary clubhouse.

The new building will be a temporary replacement for the centre’s former clubhouse, which was destroyed in an arson attack on December 3, 2011.

The new building will have a kitchen, toilets and booking- in area to provide the club’s members with basic amenities.

Peter Usher, owner of Lakenheath Clay Target Centre, said: “It’s a relief. It will be a secure portal-type building which will primarily give shelter and hot drinks for the members.”

The date for construction to start has yet to be set as the club is still in discussions with its insurance company.

Mr Usher said: “Not having a clubhouse is something we have been struggling with as there’s been nowhere for anyone to get a cup of tea or to shelter from the weather – it has adversely affected our trade.”

The club has planning permission for a temporary clubhouse on the same site as the former clubhouse until December 2013.

There are currently no plans for a permanent building.
