Club celebrates Annie’s 100th

AN HONORARY member of an over 60s club has celebrated her 100th birthday more than two weeks early.

Annie Atkins was invited to the Ixworth and Bardwell Over 60s Club last Thursday for a special birthday celebration.

The club’s former committee member was given flowers and a pretty shawl ahead of her big day on October 8.

Club member Patrica Ebborn said that despite using a wheelchair for walking distances, Annie ‘insisted on walking into the hall and looked really bright’.

Annie’s daughter-in-law Olwyn Atkins, who accompanied her to the event, said: “She had a wonderful time and she’s been full of it since. She was a bit worried about going in the first place because she doesn’t go out a lot now but I think everybody was surprised how fit and well she is - I think it’s given her a lot of confidence.”

Annie was ‘born and bred’ in Ixworth and is known for her involvement in the Royal British Legion and for talks she has given about the war years in local schools.
