Closed legal firm writes to clients

Have your say

CLIENTS of former legal practice Lloyd & Co in Bury St Edmunds should have received a letter by now about how they can get to their case files.

The firm on Angel Hill closed suddenly in November just two months after the practice was accredited as one of the best law firms in the country. It was also celebrating its 25th year in business.

It is still unclear why the firm closed, but a spokesman for the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority said that Patricia Lloyd, the sole owner, was no longer practising.

“The firm has closed and contacted all clients who it had ongoing cases with. They have written to all of clients over the last 12 months to advise ways that they can obtain their files,” he said.

“It doesn’t give a specific reason why it closed down but it is a voluntary closure.”

He added that the SRA had not had to intervene as it sometimes has to do if a practice had fallen into financial trouble.

Meanwhile, the Citizens Advice Bureau in Bury said it had had two people contact it before Christmas to raise concerns relating to the closure of Lloyd & Co. The manager there said as far as she was aware those issues had been resolved.

The SRA advises anybody who has not received a letter from Lloyd & Co to write to the firm at 14 Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 1UZ or telephone them on 01284 756098.
