The phone sat nav died as we pulled into our destination - a long, low farm building with a simple logo announcing 745pm.
The catchy name, clever concept and a diner’s recommendation had me keen to try David Wicks’s unique blend of clever business and committed host.
For five courses you pay a standard rate of £34.50 including service charge.
As newbies David came over and explained how everything worked. “We bring the plates and we take them away” after that you’re on your own to enjoy yourselves was the unspoken comment.
Wine and alcohol is available on a self service basis with a full wine list but no heavy mark up, just £5 added to the cost price.
Dining is one sitting at 745 Friday and Saturday and David does the cooking. The menu is pre selected and you can view this online beforehand.
Our five courses featured a mouth watering mushroom terrine, beautifully formed vegetable platter, clever fish ‘Pi’, wild rabbit and strawberry zabagglione. The surroundings were simple but tasteful with white and wine coloured sweet peas on every table. On the walls glossy prints and words reminded us that we were in a much loved and enjoyed family farmhouse.
The former businessman and designer, who created the wysiwyg word processor, began 745pm when he retired, combining a love of running a business and creativity. Food was beautifully presented, atmosphere relaxed and the whole concept thoughtfully executed. Next time we won’t need my sat nav!
