A MOTHER from Stowmarket is training hard to prepare to climb the highest peak in the country.
Clare Debenham, 33, will scale the 1,344m Ben Nevis next month to raise money for Breast Cancer Care.
Clare, who has taken part in Race for Life, wanted a bigger challenge and hopes to raise £500 for the charity which offers support to people affected by breast cancer and is close to her heart.
“Both my mum and grandma have had breast cancer, luckily both have survived and are currently cancer free.
“Taking part in the Ben Nevis trek is a great challenge for me and something which I have always wanted to do.
“I have been training really hard and have made good use of the great weather and long evenings for training walks to make sure I am fit enough to reach the top and to ensure I don’t let down those who have sponsored me,” said Clare, of Jacksnipe Close.
The mother of two, who works for Greene King, will join a group of 70 climbers to scale the peak on September 3.
To raise funds for the climb, Clare has organised a Zumba-thon at Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre on August 14 at 2pm and 3pm. Entry is by donation only.
