Christmas Fayre will be ‘bigger and better’

Have your say

ORGANISERS of this year’s Bury St Edmunds Christmas Fayre say it will be ‘bigger and better than ever before’.

The event takes place from Friday, November 23, to Sunday, November 25, featuring a host of festive entertainment.

Market stalls will line Angel Hill and Hatter Street with two main stages being set up at the Arc and Angel Hill.

This year, The Apex also returns as a venue.

Organiser Sharon Fairweather, from Bury St Edmunds’ Tourist Information Centre, said more than 300 stall pitches for the event had been filled already.

The weekend’s festivities end with the Santa Run, where hundreds dressed as Father Christmas will run a three kilometre course to raise money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.

Sharon said she was on the lookout for people who would like to show off their talent and perform at the event and to help ou as stewards.

She said: “The planning for this year’s fayre is going great.

“All 300 of the market stalls are now taken – we just need to allocate the pitches and arrange the entertainment.

“This year’s Christmas Fayre is going to be bigger and better than ever before. For the first time we have the provisions market on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“And we are going to have the reindeers and Santa’s Grotto back at the Abbey Gardens.

“We estimate that last year we had 100,000 people visit the town during the three days – this year we hope for more.

“If anyone would like to perform we are still booking the entertainment for the event so I would ask them to get in touch.”

“The fayre really kick starts Christmas in the town as well as putting Bury St Edmunds on the map.”
