CHILDREN at a primary school have taken part in an award-winning scheme to help their foreign friends.
Eight bilingual children at Bishop’s C of E Primary School, in Thetford, were picked to take part in a six-week Young Interpreters Scheme by headteacher Clare Cook.
They were put through role play and discussion exercises and produced a pack for arrivals from outside the UK.
Laura Bilston, English as an additional language advisory support teacher from Thetford Education Partnerhip, piloted the scheme and praised the children for their participation.
She said: “The children are very proud of their new role and it has been a real boost to their self-esteem to participate in the project.”
The scheme has won a European Award for Languages and has been offered to other schools in the town.
