Schoolchildren follow the journey of a potato

Barnham Primary School pupils followed the journey of a potato during a school trip that started deep in a potato field near their school.

There pupils discovered first-hand the process of growing food, helping to harvest potatoes themselves.

Then the children followed the potatoes to Abreys packing plant at Snetterton.

They saw the potatoes’ journey carry on through the grading line – being sieved according to size – and then going through a washer. Finally they saw the potatoes being packaged.

In the summer term, Year 5 won a competition, arising from their visit to the School Farm and Country Fair at Trinity Park in Ipswich.

Their creative, winning entry showed what they had learned from the show’s carrot experience.
