Cheers! Regulars and staff at Rattlesden pub hold surprise party for long-serving landlady

Regulars and staff at the Five Bells Public House in Rattlesden staged a surprise party as a tribute and a thank-you to long-serving landlady Debbie Oliver.

Mrs Oliver, who has clocked up 20 years behind the bar in the village pub, was presented with various gifts, including an arbour and plaque, along with £180 of vouchers.

A 3D cake of the pub was also presented to her while other customers put on a small firework display in the evening.

Liz Whatley, who works at the pub, said: “Debbie is one-in-a-billion and we wanted to do something to say thank-you to her.

“It’s like one big family at the Five Bells and the pub is truly the hub of the community. She has also done so much for charity over the years.

“Debbie isn’t seen as the landlady, she is much more than that.”
