East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) Retail Distribution Centre in Thetford is on the look out for local book worms to lend a hand at the charity.

The distribution centre, based at Brunel Business Court, Brunel Way, has a large number of books donated which need sorting and sending onto the charity’s 20 shops across the region.

Currently the centre has two dedicated ladies who give up their time once a week helping with the books, but they desperately need more volunteers to keep up with demand.

Madeline Gotts has been volunteering with EACH for eight years and Barbara Browning for nine years.

Both started at the Ipswich shop and moved to the retail distribution centre six years ago. They visit the centre once a week to help sort the books - looking out for ones which could be valuable, and arranging a good selection to be sent to all the EACH shops.

Madeline said: “We love books - so the role was perfect for us. We come along, sort through the books and pick out one which we think could get more money and give those to the eBay shop manager. We then sort through finding all the clean, good quality ones and box them ready to send them onto the shops.”

Barbara added: “We both had careers as midwives so to us, choosing a children’s charity to volunteer for was a must. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone with a passion for books as you see some great ones coming through.”

EACH cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across East Anglia and support their families.
