A group of friends are to embark on an ambitious charity golf challenge in memory of a popular Mildenhall cricketer, who died following a battle with cancer.

Chris Reeve, Rob Wilden, Bruno How and Scot Bennett will take on the 72 hole golf fund-raiser at Stowmarket Golf Club on Thursday June 13.

It is in tribute to Rick Handy, a long serving member of Mildenhall Cricket Club, who passed away aged 44.

The group aim to raise funds for Macmillan, which was one of Mr Handy’s chosen charities.

Already they have amassed more than £1,000.

Mr Reeve, a former member of Mildenhall Cricket Club, said Mr Handy had been ‘bravely fighting cancer for four years, enduring three long and painful courses of chemotherapy’.

He added: “Never once in this time did he complain about the treatment, the way it made him feel or indeed his plight.

“He was an absolute inspiration to all and like many others, we will miss Rick tremendously.”

They have a Twitter account @TeamRico72, a facebook page and a Just Giving page to make donations on
