A rural post office has been saved from closure by an agreement that will see it relocate to a thriving village shop.
Shooting, equestrian and country goods retailer Forelock and Load recently restored a 16th century barn from which it has been operating a shop and coffee shop.
In December, the facility, in Church Road, Barrow, is expecting to welcome the village post office, in a move that will offer postal customers extended opening hours, onsite parking and disabled access, among other benefits.
Nick Johnston, of Forelock and Load, said: “We did not want to lose the valuable asset in the village. The postmaster had been looking to move the business, with no feasible options for other relocation and the thought of having no post office would have been a real blow to members of the village.”
Thurston Post Office is also seeing some changes. It will close for refurbishment next Saturday and will launch a new service on October 20.
