A PLAN for a new caravan and camping site and a shop selling caravan supplies has been approved in Beck Row.
Permission was granted for the site at Ryeland Farm, Wilde Street, Beck Row, to be expanded at a Forest Heath District Council development control meeting on Wednesday.
A caravan and camping site with room for 15 plots should be opened in two to three months.
An agricultural barn on the land will also be converted into a shop selling caravan supplies and a new toilet block will be built for the use of campers.
Robert Newman, the owner of the land, said he had made the decision to open a shop on the site after a former employee of M & M Leisure approached him looking for work after the closure of one of their stores.
The development will create three new jobs.
Mr Newman said: “This is about creating jobs and the regeneration of the countryside.”
The site is already used as a caravan storage area and has about 150 caravans on it at any one time.
James Waters, Leader of Forest Heath District Council said: “It’s not a sustainable farm, it’s a working farm and this is an excellent scheme to create jobs in a rural area.”
