A campaign against plans to build a 62-bed nursing home at Nowton Court in Bury St Edmunds is gaining momentum.
Twitter campaign group ProtectNowtonPark has already gained almost 300 followers and an internet petition has been signed by more than 80 people.
Town Councillor Ann Williams said the building was out of keeping and just too big for the site.
“I think my main objection is the sheer scale of the building. It is not fitting for the park”, she said. “To us it looks like a Premier Inn and is not in keeping with the setting.”
Documents published on St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s appear to show that the park will be used for construction traffic however architect Michael Driver said it is set to be omitted from the application.
A council spokesman said officers had met with the applicants but had not yet received an official withdrawal.
Mr Driver said: “That has been omitted for the plans, construction will be completely contained within the site.
“We are in the process of negotiating with planning officers on the redesign.”
