Bury St Edmunds Volunteer Police Cadets helped borough councillors and local people on Saturday picking up litter in the neglected Rougham Hill Woods.
The cadets and Bury’s Safer Neighbourhood Team are doing it as a community project.
St Edmundsbury Borough Council began the project by clearing dead trees and will repair footpaths through the wood.
Signs and CCTV to deter dumping will also be installed.
The wood was originally planted by West Suffolk County Council as a community woodland.
PC Phil Howard of the Bury East/West SNT said: “The Bury Volunteer Police Cadets are always looking for ways to help the community and we felt this was an ideal regeneration project for them to become involved with. This is a great example of a youth group giving-up their free-time to the benefit of the local area.”
