IT WILL be plain sailing for a cadet group from now on after the ribbon was snipped on a £20,000 upgrade.

Mildenhall Sea Cadets welcomed dignitaries from Suffolk County Council and Mildenhall Parish Council on Saturday to mark the handover of a new storage shed and rowing boat.

The new additions were part-funded by Mildenhall Parish Council. Cllr Tony Wheble, council chairman, was on hand to cut the ribbon and was joined by Stephen Frost, Suffolk county councillor, who also contributed to the scheme.

Angela Shipp, chairman of Mildenhall Sea Cadets, said the new equipment was proving to be a hit.

“The cadets are loving it and the staff think it’s great.

“We try to give the cadets preparation for every walk of life by giving them discipline and a sense of camaraderie – this equipment will help us do that,” she said.

Colin Plowright ,from the Royal British Legion, was also present.
