Havebury Housing is one of the 70 teams already signed up to the Healthy Ambitions One Million Steps Challenge starting on September 14.
More than half the housing association’s staff are taking part in the challenge.
Katy Bell, human resources manager, said: “We are so pleased with the take up for this challenge. It’s encouraging people to leave the car at home and walk, which is not only making them healthier but saving them money too.”
SAmong the teams taking part are Suffolk Police, Ashton KCJ Solicitors and PPG Industries in Stowmnarket.
The aim of the challenge is for teams of five people to complete one million steps over the four weeks of the initiative.
Richard Powell, Chief Executive of Healthy Ambitions, said: “Just 30 minutes of walking a day can reduce body fat, boost the immune system, aid digestion and can even reduce the risk from cancer. Incredibly it is estimated that more than 10,000 cases of breast and bowel cancer could be prevented in the UK through people doing a bit more walking.”
Teams wanting to sign up can register on the One Million Steps Challenge website www.healthyambitions.org.uk/onemillionsteps The entry fee is £10 per person.
