ST EDMUNDSBURY Cathedral will begin work on an equal access project after being awarded a grant by the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust.
For 10 years, full disabled access to the cathedral has been an aim and a temporary ramp has been used to bypass the two entrance steps – the £1,000 grant will help with permanent alterations. Other grants will also be needed.
The Churches of St Mary in Troston and Coney Weston were also awarded undisclosed grants up to £10,000. In Troston it will be used to illuminate its famous paintings while in Coney Weston it will be used to create a second opening, primarily to ease concerns about health and safety.
