INDEPENDENT toy shop Toy Box Two, in Bury St Edmunds, is to close on Sunday after 10 years in the town.

Owner Claire Cranidge, 44, said the shop in St John’s Street had suffered falling trade due to a number of factors, including a loss of footfall both from the arc and during the year-long period while the library was closed.

She also said the shop had been hit by rising competition both from the availability of toys online and as more and more shops and supermarkets feature a toy section.

“The rents and rates are just so expensive and the footfall and trade has just dropped off. It is sad that we are going. I have had some lovely, really loyal customers over the last 10 year and I just want to say thank you to them all,” Claire said.

The original Toy Box shop was set up by Claire’s mum in Saffron Walden and is still going after more than 25 years in business.
