FORMER restaurateur Rene van den Oort is getting ready to toast his latest business venture – a specialist beer shop in Bury St Edmunds town centre.

Beautiful Beers was cracked open in St John’s Street in the middle of last month, selling more than 200 mainly Belgian and Dutch brews.

Now he is looking forward to an official opening on Sunday, September 4, when among guests will be renowned beer author Tim Webb, who will sign copies of his latest work Lambicland, named after an area of Belgium, which specialises in one brew.

Rene, born in The Netherlands, settled in the UK in 1987 and with his wife Philippa ran the successful Bay Tree restaurant only a short distance up St John’s Street, until November.

The official opening, at 2.30pm on September 4, will also coincide with the launch of www.beautifulbeers.co.uk, its new online shop. Local brews will also be on sale, including ones from Brandon, Lowestoft, Bungay, Aldburgh, Market Weston and Mundford.
