PLANNING applications for a new discount food store in Bury St Edmunds have been registered with the borough council.

The Aldi store, prosposed to built on the former Lookers garage on Newmarket Road, could create between 15 and 20 jobs in the area.

A 3D visualisation of the building has been released by the architect to give people a flavour of what the site will be transformed into.

In June, 1,000 letters were sent to residents living near the proposed site to gauge public opinion about the new development.

A spokesman for Aldi said: “The former Lookers site located on Newmarket Road offers an exciting opportunity to develop a high profile site, which has remained empty and derelict for the last three years, into a modern discount food store providing much needed investment and the creation of jobs.”
