New ‘slick’ look as firm reveals logo

MAJOR Bury St Edmunds retailer Glasswells has a new look as it rebrands for 2012.

The new logo is designed in light grey. The lettering reflects the original store’s signage and carries the message ‘more choice, more style, more you’.

The strip either side of the store name depicts icons which reflect the range of goods the store carries and this new look will be gradually rolled out across the business.

The distinctive icons will also offer helpful pointers to different departments in the store.

The newlook will carry suitable secondary messages for the company’s removals department, its storage facility and its contract floor and furnishings department.

Glasswells began in Bury more than 65 years ago and it has extended its stores to Ipswich, Haverhill and Saffron Walden. It now employs 260 people.

Paul Glasswell, managing director, said of the new look: “This was prompted by a focus group we did a while ago and people felt the old logo didn’t reflect our style and the new logo is a little more slick.”

Mr Glasswell said that in the current recession the market was more difficult with people finding they had less disposable income.

“Having thought about it we’re keen to offer a good selection at a good price and make sure we keep ahead of our competition,” he said.

The new logo will be gradually rolled out through the company’s fleet of 14 vehicles over the next two years, changing the purple, cream and orange look to white and grey.

He said that the new look logo also reflected the move towards more internet shopping and it was important the company had a vision which would reflect that.

The firm is currently building up a range of items which people will soon be able to buy online when Glasswells enters the internet marketing field.
